Zimbabwe defeated Oman by 14 runs in the first game of the Super Six stage in the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifiers at the Queens Sports Club on Thursday.

While batting first, Zimbabwe posted a target of 333 runs in 50 overs for the visitors. Skipper Sean Williams was once again the standout player, scoring 142 off 103, courtesy of 17 boundaries making his second-highest score.

He also managed a batting average of over 100 in ODIs in 2023.

In reply to Zimbabwe’s 333-run target, Oman’s opener Kashyap Prajapati scored a ton, but it wasn’t enough as they only managed to score 318-9 in 50 overs, just 14 runs short in their chase.

Zimbabwe, Netherlands and West Indies qualified from Group A. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka, Scotland and Oman from Group B managed to secure their place in the Super Six stage.

Only two out of six teams will secure their place in the Cricket World Cup.

The hosts are yet to lose any game in the qualifiers and have posted a target of 300 or more runs three times in the tournament.

The four teams that do not reach the Super Six stage will remain in Zimbabwe and compete in the playoff.
